What's The Best Curry Under The Sun? Our Eighth KCACO Podcast Has Some Answers ...

It it feels like a while since you've been shouted at by Tramps, that's because it probably is. But fret no more, as the latest episode of Keep Calm And Curry On is done and dusted.

It's a particularly packed 40-minute show, with an in-depth look at the nominations in the Scottish Curry Awards 2012, plus a very special installment of The Burning Question, inspired by the amazing heatwave that almost brought Scotland to a grinding halt recently. In such uncommon weather, what's the best curry dish to have? The Tramps got in touch with some of their favourite restaurants to seek some curry counsel. Plus there's a track from Charanjit Singh, a man way ahead of his time when it came to electronic music.

It's all there, stuffed into the Mixcloud player below ...

The podcast we occasionally call KCACO isn't yet available on iTunes, so if the embedded player above isn't doing it for you, you have a couple of other options:

Summer = Some Samosa Salad Or Suhin'

It doesn't happen that often, but when the sun puts his extremely fire-resistant hat on and comes out to play – as he has done in Glasgow this week – what's a curry lover do? Tradition dictates that curry is a warming dish to drive away chills, a decent dollop of spicy cement to gird yourself against the teeth of the Scottish wind. But when it's taps-aff weather, does that mean curry is aff as well? It depends on who you ask. And some enterprising curryhouses – like the ever-enterprising Ignite in Edinburgh – would even go as far to argue that curry is the perfect dish for summer, as getting a sweat on is the key to moderating your body temperature in the sun. And so it was, in a rare respite from his full-court media press, Trampy found himself ambling along Great Western Road with the sun on his brow and a rumble in his belly. And that's when he came across Jalebi & Gelato.

Maany Haappy Returns To Chaat! Magazine: The Curry Lover's Friend, And Proofreader's Accursed Nemesis

Newspaper naysayers may cry "print is dead!" but even in the touchscreen-smearing world of always-online, there's still a voracious appetite for glossy magazines. And many first issues arrive in a blaze of publicity. At the turn of the millennium, Trampy his own bad self can remember attending the glitzy launch bash of an optimistic Scottish rival to Hello! – called, inevitably, Hiya! – that had some of the best free champagne and canapes he ever had the pleasure to pilfer, as well as a disproportionate number of glamorous attendees wearing glittery cowboy hats. Yet after just one issue, Hiya! went bye-ah! But has that got to do with curry? Come with us, into the Reader Zone ...

Three Things You Should Know About The hungryhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry Awards 2012 ...

1. The closing date for nominations in the Scottish Curry Awards 2012 is May 18, according to the downloadable form, so that's just a week or so to get your thoughts in order and put forward your noms in the various sections, including the recently added "Best Of Glasgow" category. (There is also an online voting option.)

2. After winning in 2010 and, uh, not winning in 2011, remember TATTGOC came to the difficult but correct decision to withdraw from the coveted Curry Lover Of The Year category this year. Our pal Alex Salmond has enough on his plate ...

3. The big night is Monday June 11 at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. Should be a belter.

(OK, four things ... is no-one else freaked out by those FORK EYES?)

Tastin' With The Tramps: Fireball Liqueur!

The distinguished members of TATTGOC sure do love their curry, as evidenced by their now-outdated title of Curry Lovers Of The Year 2010. But their ongoing quest for spicy satisfaction isn't merely limited to TATTGOC's regular excursions to some of Glasgow's hidden-gem curryhouses. If they happen across almost any curry-related foodstuff, Trampy and The Tramp feel compelled to take it for a spin – and thus was born the irregular feature Tastin' With The Tramps. What spicy product is in the hot seat this time? Why, it's cinnamon-enriched Canadian whiskey liquer Fireball! Why?
