Curry Capital 2013 Result: The TATTGOC Breakdown

First things first: well done Bradford for retaining the Curry Capital title in 2013. The final result was announced on Tuesday morning, and while it might have meant disappointment for Glasgow, our own fair No Mean City did still place second, just like in 2012. In fact, the top five places in Curry Capital 2013 almost mirrored the result of 2012: Bradford, Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Leicester.
Twenty-one cities took part in Curry Capital 2013, and the rest of the top ten was rounded out by London East, London South, London Central, Manchester and Sheffield. (Whither Edinburgh, who placed at number five last year?)
Peter Grove, long-standing organiser of Curry Capital had this to say about Glasgow's bid. "It was so very close," he said. "The effort from Glasgow was, as always, absolutely amazing and has given Glasgow quite a reputation amongst the competing cities." Supporters of our city can hold their heads up high as for the third year running, the team of restaurants representing Glasgow – Ashoka Southside, KoolBa, Mister Singh's India and Mother India – raised the most money for the Curry Tree charitable fund.

What did Lord Provost Sadie Docherty have to say? "Congratulations to Bradford," she said. "Glasgow has enjoyed its many triumphs and we hope Bradford enjoy their success this year. The ultimate winners in this competition are the charities and once again we have come out top for our fundraising efforts. I must also pay tribute to our four nominated restaurants who continue to make Glasgow what it is – an all-time curry great."
Apparently Bradford won by two clear points, compared to the extremely close 2012 result, but it also means that both Glasgow and Bradford have won four times each in the competition's history, which means 2015 will be the ultimate smackdown between these curry heavyweights.
In all honesty, the Tramps were caught a little on the hop by the announcement – we had got a little mixed up and thought the result wouldn't be revealed until the "official" ceremony on October 27. Even though Curry Capital is sponsored by hungryhouse.co.uk, it was 5pm who were quickest to bam up TATTGOC for a quote, so we poured our hearts out to their takeaway blog. Apologies if it sounds a little strident. Everything was still so raw ...
